Teleport City

For over ten years now, Teleport City has been one of the nets preeminent Cult Film movie review sites. There you'll find reviews from every genre, from classic swashbucklers, Italian Crime, Giallo, Bollywood musicals, Eurospy, bizarre Indian horror, Spaghetti Westerns, Mexican Masked Wrestling films, Pinky Violence, Sexploitation, Nunsploitation, Blaxploitation, Bruceploitation ...and so much more.

As many of you are aware, I do a little bit of moonlighting over at Teleport City, but long before I posted reviews there, I was a fan of the site, visiting every day. Put simply, it is the best movie review site on the internet.

Die Danger Die Die Kill

Todd Stadtman is a Bay Area based musician and writer whose past history of playing in marginal punk rock bands has left him with a deep feeling of kinship with all things unloved and obscure. This affinity is perhaps what lead him in late 2006 to create The Lucha Diaries, and later, Die Danger Die Die Kill. Both sites offer a smorgasbord of reviews for films that I didn't know existed.

Die Danger Die Die Kill is one of my favourite blogs, not simply because Todd is a fellow writer at Teleport City, but because he is good writer. Each post takes me to exciting, new destinations. Rarely does he walk a path that is well trodden, and it's that strange sense of 'what will he come up with next' that keeps me going back to his site.

The Horror

'Houseinrlyeh' from Germany describes himself as one of those strange nerd-geek mutants. interested in a lot of things, expert in none. Thankfully his interests are worth reading about. Who wants expert opinions anyway?

The Crime Lounge

I could say that The Crime Lounge is a great site to visit because you can download a whole swag of OOP soundtracks and records, which is correct, but the site is so much more than that. From the liner notes and articles that go with each post, to the library of art work - and just the look and feel of the Lounge, the site is a sensory experience.

To pull on your slippers and crushed velvet smoking jacket and head across to the lounge click here.

The Lightning Bugs Lair

The Lightning Bug's Lair is one of the sites I learned about by becoming a member of LAMB, and I am glad I did, this site is amazing. I don't even like horror films (I know, I'm a big squib) but I always find something fascinating to read there. The Bug covers everything from horror, exploitation, giallo, Turkish superman films, science fiction...the list is endless.

The reviews themselves are witty and informative, and usually there's the odd (very odd) video clip there to give you a taster of the film under discussion.

The Deighton Dossier

The Deighton Dossier is the Internet's most comprehensive resource about British author Len Deighton.

Len Deighton’s world is one of secret spies and not-so secret betrayal; heroism in war and the battle of the sexes; big-time crooks and small-time villains; swinging sixties London and the drab uniformity of East Berlin.

The website about all this and more – found in the work of Len Deighton, one of the world’s leading thriller and spy novel writers.

Hougly Beer & Film Review

Here's another blogsite that I stumbled upon which I have been enjoying recently. On a cold miserable night, is there anything better than settling down with a bottle or six of your favourite amber nectar and watching a good movie? Or even a bad movie - I'm not too fussy! It seems that Lee at The Hougly Film and Beer Journal shares my sentiments. Not only does he review the films that come his way, but also his favourite tipples...you can even watch the beer reviews on Youtube.

Quantum of Bond

Here's a link for a French Blog called Quantum of Bond, run by a fellow called Philippe Lombard. The site may be of interest to Bond fans. Even though it's in French, I think that a lot of articles are understandable (or you can use a translator).

Check it out. To head across, click here.

The Saint

Regular visitors to Permission To Kill will have noticed that I am a big fan of The Saint. The Saint Club: Leslie Charteris' Simon Templar site contains all the information about the Saint that you'll ever need. From the original books to the television series and films.

Hollywood Dreamland

I love the Golden Years of Hollywood, but writing about spy films limits me in the amount of films I can cover. But C.K. Dexter Haven has a fantastic blog that looks back at classic films and the stars of yesteryear. From the Thin Man series to Ginger Rodgers and Susan Haywood, Hollywood Dreamland continually presents thoughtful and interesting posts.

The B-Masters Cabal

The B-Masters Cabal is a one stop site, for those who are interested in the macabre side of cinema. There you'll find reviews and links to sites like Teleport City, And You Call Yourself A Scientist, 1000 Misspent Hours and Counting, Cold Fusion Video Reviews and The Unknown Movies Page and many others.

The Wild Eye

The Eurospy Guide, as many of you know, is one of my Spy film Bibles. One of it's authors, Matt Blake also writes at The Wild Eye where he looks at all kinds of European Cinema, past and present, with a special emphasis on Italian Cinema.

Needless to say, Matt really knows his stuff. But on top of that, he writes in a really accessible way, so even if you don't have a degree in foreign cinema, you can still read and enjoy his reviews.

The Rap Sheet

The Rap Sheet is a site that I am pretty new to, but it has quickly become one of my daily ports of call. Devoted to Crime-fiction, the site is a wealth of information about new and forthcoming books, special author projects, genre innovations, and distinctive crime-fiction-related Web sites.

For the run down on The Rap Sheet click here.

The Harry Palmer Movie Site

What spy fan can go past the Harry Palmer Movie Site - well I certainly can't! The site contains information about the five Harry Palmer films, including snippets from behind the scenes, image galleries, film clips, locations, soundtracks, deleted scenes, trivia and a whole lot more.

If you are interested in Len Deighton's creation at all, then I suggest that you pay this site a visit.

Stone Age Cinema

Fellow Australian, Tom Meade is the author of Stone Age Cinema – an unjustified sojourn through the annals of caveman film. What can I say - scantily clad women in furs being chased by giant rubber monsters...sounds like my idea of a good time. But here's what Tom says:

Why Caveman Films?

One day, many years ago, when men were men and women were something somewhat more than women, I stayed home from school for no good reason at all and caught One Million Years BC on television. I was hooked! The Grandeur! The Spectacle! This, my friends, was the greatest film since Dune!

Or maybe not.

Added to this, the site also features the Doug McClure Rating System - need I say more?
